HEU Reporting Workshop – 16 Feb 2019

Do you struggle to prepare your annual report and send it to the Home Education Unit (HEU) with fingers crossed? Perhaps you are about to write your first ever report and you’d like some guidance.

If so, whatever your approach is to homeschooling, our FULL DAY HEU Reporting workshop in Paddington, Brisbane could be just what you are looking for.

This workshop is full of information, tips and tricks to make your report writing go more smoothly, so that you can get back to having fun with your kids. While you will not be writing your own work samples or reports during the workshop, you will be learning the skills, and gathering the knowledge and resources to successfully complete your work samples and reports for the years ahead.

You will learn how to describe the ways in which you are supporting your child’s learning needs in words that show the HEU that you are providing a ‘high quality education’. We will spend time deconstructing the ‘Criteria for a high-quality education’ and provide you with practical examples of how you can insert simple statements into your report to meet these criteria.

You will be shown a number of different approaches to collecting and completing work samples, and we will share with you actual work samples at various Primary grade levels. These approaches are completely transferable and can be easily applied to higher grade levels.

We will also share with you many helpful resources and show you how to find the most useful parts of the Australian Curriculum to use in your reporting.

If your child is resistant to writing or ‘just does not write’, we will explain how you can still provide work samples in Mathematics and other subjects without your child needing to write anything. We can also provide guidance on how you can support your reluctant-writer to create ‘English’ writing samples.

The facilitators, Nicole and Jeny, are both ex-teachers and passionate home educators who have designed this workshop to meet the diverse needs of homeschooling families who find navigating the Reporting process daunting. Between them, Nicole and Jeny have experience with reluctant writers, late readers, dyslexia, autism and gifted/exceptional learners. This is a small workshop, with a maximum of 10 participants.
